Janet Jones, currently of Brookings, SD has recently joined the volunteer Board of Directors for Dakotaland Federal Credit Union. Jones replaces long time board member, Jeff Miller, of Huron, SD, who resigned this past September after dedicating 12 years of service to the financial cooperative. “Brookings has proven to be one of our largest growing markets and we are pleased to have a local voice on the board to represent this expanding membership,” commented Dakotaland Federal Credit Union President, Dan Cumbee.
Jones has dedicated her career to the promotion of small business and has been involved with the everyday operations of several business ventures over the years. Janet revels in being an owner/operator and got her initial experience opening a beauty salon shortly after graduating from cosmetology school. Later, Janet and her husband, Duane, owned and managed a furniture and flooring store, as well as a gas station and convenience store, all in Kingsbury County. In 2010, the Jones Family kicked off their latest business endeavor with the purchase of Papa Murphy's Pizza in Brookings. “In regard to serving on the Board of Directors, I feel living in a small town, raising a family, paired with my business experience will allow me to bring a realistic, day to day perspective of the financial challenges and responsibilities that we as credit union members face on a regular basis,” stated Jones.
Janet was born and raised in Lake Preston SD and graduated from Lake Preston High School. After calling Lake Preston her home most of her life, Janet and her husband, Duane built a new home in Brookings and are enjoying everything the city has to offer. This includes spending more time with their grown children and two grandsons. The newest Dakotaland Board Member likes spending her free time with family and friends.
Dakotaland Federal Credit Union has locations in Huron, Volga, Brookings, Madison, Redfield, DeSmet, Mitchell and Woonsocket. With 28,000 members and $270 million in assets, Dakotaland continues to be locally owned and operated offering a full-line of financial services to its membership since 1935.
