A Dakotaland FREE Advantage ATM & debit/check card is actually two products on one piece of plastic. It's an ATM card allowing you 24-hour access to your checking/savings accounts and it's a debit/check card allowing you access to your checking account for purchases at millions of merchants that accept debit/check cards.

This allows you to access your funds immediately, electronically. Unlike a credit card, a debit/check card transaction posts immediately from the available balance in your account. If the available funds are insufficient, the transaction is declined.  Apply for a Debit/Check Card.

  Tap to Pay: The Latest Debit Card Technology

  When you open a new Dakotaland Federal Credit Union checking account or at which time your DFCU debit card expires, you will be pleasantly surprised to see your new debit card has the latest Tap to Pay technology. Known as contactless cards, you will have the ability to make purchases by tapping or holding your card over a payment terminal. Using Tap to Pay can be a more convenient and secure way to make purchases than swiping or inserting your card. Dakotaland debit cards, which have the contactless technology, feature a symbol of four curved lines that look a bit like the Wi-Fi symbol turned on its side.

  How to use our contactless debit card:

  1. Look for the contactless symbol on the card reader. The four curved lines that appear on your card should also appear on contactless-enabled card readers. 
  2. When prompted, hold the card within one to two inches of the contactless symbol.
  3. If your purchase is approved, you’ll receive confirmation from the reader—typically a beep, green light, or check mark.

  It only takes just a few seconds to complete the payment process and according to VISA, contactless payments are one of the most secure ways to pay. Each contactless transaction creates a unique, one-time code or password—a security process known as tokenization. This helps reduce risk because the code can’t be used again—and it can be read only by the card processing network.

  Dakotaland’s credit cards do not have this technology available at this time.
