Debit Cards

A Dakotaland FREE Advantage ATM & Debit | Check Card is actually two products on one piece of plastic. It's an ATM card allowing you 24-hour access to your checking & savings accounts and it's a Debit | Check Card allowing you access to your checking account for purchases at millions of merchants that accept Debit/Check Cards. Such a card allows members to access their funds immediately, electronically. Unlike a credit card, a debit | check card transaction posts immediately from the available balance in the cardholder's account. If the available funds are insufficient, the transaction is declined. A debit | check card is faster than paper checks and is safer than cash. For added security, your Credit Union offers Verified By VISA which verifies card ownership when the cardholder wishes to make online purchases. Apply for your Debit | Check Card today.

EMV Chip Card

Starting in 2016, Dakotaland will be replacing magnetic strip cards with chip cards as your card expires. This will give you greater fraud protection when you use your card at a chip-activated terminal. Your new card will not only be more secure, but it will also be easy to use. Here’s what you can look forward to as a cardholder:

ENHANCED FRAUD PROTECTION
When you use your card at a chip-activated terminal, the embedded chip generates a one-time use code. This code is virtually impossible to counterfeit and helps reduce in-store fraud.

GLOBAL ACCEPTANCE
More merchants are accepting chip transactions every day. Whether you check out using chip technology or swipe your card, you can pay with confidence wherever VISA credit cards are accepted.

EASY TO USE
Simply swipe your card like you do today. However, if a chip-activated terminal is available, insert your card instead and follow the prompts. Keep in mind, you can continue to use your chip card online and over the phone the same way you do today.

Life Event Savings

How about your wedding or maybe your daughter's wedding? An "I Do" account is all about you. Trying to put money away for a vacation? A "Tan in the Sand" account will put a smile on your face. The name you select for each of your life event accounts will appear on your statement so you can easily track your progress toward your savings goals.

Certificates of Deposit

A Certificate of Deposit earns interest at a fixed rate over a set period of time. The interest rate is usually a higher rate or APY than the Basic Savings Account, because the money cannot be withdrawn until maturity or an early withdrawal penalty may apply. You may wish to consider a Certificate of Deposit if you want to earn additional interest and won't need access to the money in the near future.

  • Start with a minimum deposit as low as $500
  • Youth Certificates available for members age 18 and under (as low as $100 deposit)
  • Choose a maturity date from 6 to 60 months
  • Dividends may be paid to you or reinvested back into the certificate quarterly
  • CDs with a term of 24 months or longer will have a one time rate change option, specials excluded
  • Money put into a Individual Retirement Account (IRA) can be invested in an IRA Certificate of Deposit. Since you will not be accessing the money until retirement, you can put the money in CDs with longer maturity periods. CDs pay higher interest rates and offer a safe, fixed return.
  • IRA Certificates of Deposit are a great way to make sure that your IRA does not lose money even if the stock market declines. Your Credit Union CDs, fully covered by NCUA Insurance up to $250,000, can help protect and balance any IRA portfolio.

IRAs

An Individual Retirement Account or IRA, is a self-funded retirement plan that allows you to contribute a limited yearly amount toward your retirement. Funds are invested at competitive compounding rates and taxes on the interest earned in the account are deferred. Each IRA Account is Insured separately up to an additional $250,000 by NCUA.

  • Competitive compounding rates
  • IRA certificate of deposit options
  • Potential tax benefits
  • Traditional, Roth, and Education IRAs available

Traditional IRA

A Traditional IRA is a tax-deferred individual retirement account. Traditional IRA contributions are tax-deductible at the time they are deposited and both the principal and the interest earned in the account are taxed as regular income when they are withdrawn as distributions.

Roth IRA

A Roth IRA is an individual retirement account that provides tax-free growth. Roth IRA contributions are fully taxable at the time they are deposited and both the principal and the interest earned in the account are tax-free when they are withdrawn as distributions.

Education IRA

An Education IRA is a tax-qualified savings account available only to children under the age of 18 and designed to accumulate savings to pay for education expenses. Education IRAs, now known as the Coverdell Education Savings Account is really not an IRA at all, but a new way to save for qualified higher education expenses such as tuition, fees, books, supplies, equipment (including the purchase of a computer, educational software and internet access) required for college, vocational, public and private elementary and high schools.
